Winter Medicine for Collective Care
Part 2 of the Winter Wisdom Series
From tasting medicine in January to making medicine in February,
part 2 of the Winter Wisdom series at Casa Kindred will be a gathering rooted in seasonal herbalism, heart centered holistic remedies, and collective care.
Late winter is Kapha season in Ayurveda, ruled by the elements of Earth and Water.
It is heavy, damp, slow; but also, fertile, communal, and perfect for building strength. While the month of February focuses on romantic love, weβre focusing on a specific form of Kapha called Avalambaka Kapha and it means βthat which supports.β
It lives in the chest and supports the lungs, spine, heart & emotions.Β
When Avalambaka Kapha is out of balance, we might notice chest congestion, shallow breathing, grief that feels stuck, emotional numbness, or the feeling that weβre carrying too much alone.
So, to balance Avalambaka, we will come together to explore herbal medicine for βthat which supportsβ the heart center, with special attention given to the chest and lungs aka the grief centers of the body.Β
β¨ What weβll do:
β’ Learn about Earth and Water elements that accumulate into winter heaviness
β’ Make a warming Oxymel (herbs + honey + vinegar)Β to support the heart, lungs & chest
β’ Make a devotion to share the ritual of medicine making with someone else
β’ Make and take an additional herbal formula as a February love offering for someone in your community
This gathering is for all of us folks that struggle with moving through the cold of winter,
holding a lot,Β
feeling the weight,Β
and craving a warmth that will lighten the load.Β
